Hi all:
I'm looking for a midweek, weeklong getaway in early March. I can go either Northern or Southern California, and I'm considering several hot springs in the area, among them Orr, Harbin, Wilbur, Sierra, and the matilija sanctuary.
My primary concern is quiet and comfort. I'll need some space to work on a project (lots of reading and writing) so I'd like a place that has some solitude and privacy, at least for a large chunk of the day. Some socialization at night might be nice. Clothing optional and good hot springs are a must. I'd say I prefer a private-ish room and not a dorm, since I'll need to have some room to spread out (a room, or a nook with a desk would be perfect).
Can anyone recommend a place that might fit me? I keep hearing good and bad about Harbin, and Orr's "no soap" policy (at least the one I've seen online) might be a tad more rustic than I'd like.
Thanks!

Re: Finding the right spot: Harbin, Orr, Sierra, et. al...
Sun, February 4, 2007 - 8:47 AMfor what you're looking for, I think Wilbur is your best option.....though I haven't been to Sierra or the matilija sanctuary. Wilbur has private rooms, is very quiet and peaceful, but you can interact with others if you so choose. the location is gorgeous and it's a great place to hike. I believe they have an artist-in-residence program. it is a little pricey, so that might be an issue depending on your budget. from what I understand Orr is undergoing renovations so it doesn't sound like it would suit your purpose. I would rule out Harbin altogether in this circumstance. -
